No Turning back by Tracy Buchanan only took me a couple of days to read, I could barely put it done. It is about a young woman, Anna Graves, recenlty seperated with her husband, Guy and a mother to a little girl named Joni. Anna is a radio presenter. One day she took her daughter on their regular walk on the beach, then suddenly things went wrong when a young teenager boy tried to attack her and her baby girl. Her life went upside down when the young boy dies from his injuries. As the story progresses Anna discovers a family secret that had me jaw dropped at what she had found out.
“What is this about, Jamie? is it what the kid said about you being nothing? because you’re not, you know.”
His jaw clenched. “That’s nice of you, Anna, but you and I know the truth. I’m nothing and I’ll amount to nothing. You though.’ He looked at her, shaking his head. “You’re as far away from nothing that you can get.” He looked into her eyes. “I’ve never met anyone like you, Anna, You f**king fascinate me.”
When radio presenter Anna Graves and her baby are attacked on the beach by a crazed teenager, Anna reacts instinctively to protect her daughter.
But her life falls apart when the schoolboy dies from his injuries. The police believe Anna’s story, until the autopsy results reveal something more sinister.
A frenzied media attack sends Anna into a spiral of self-doubt. Her precarious mental state is further threatened when she receives a chilling message from someone claiming to be the ‘Ophelia Killer’, responsible for a series of murders twenty years ago.
Is Anna as innocent as she claims?
And is murder forgivable, if committed to save your child’s life…?
Tracy Buchanan did an amazing job writing this book. The characters were definitly created and described well especially Anna Grave and Jamie Nunn, I think I may have even fallen in love with Jamie Nunn. When I started reading the book I was hooked, I could barely put it down.
There were a couple of chapters in the book which included a timeline but there was at least six or seven short chapters throughout the book, where a conversation between the killer and the partner that I hoped had timelines as a couple of them I got a little confused and had no idea what was going on. I still thought it was easy to read and understood what was happening in the story.
Oh wow, I really did not expected it, I was definitly in shock finding out all the secrets and who was behind those chilling emails that Anna was recieving. Everytime something came up I kept guessing who could it be then change my mind and asumed it was someone else, I would not have guessed it thats for sure.
Jamie Nunn is definitly was my favourite character. Tracy Buchanan created and described him so well that I could imagine what he would have looked like. Jamie Nunn is a young mechanic that was brought up in a bad enviroment. He always seemed to get into trouble with the law. Most people in his town would not dare to mess with him but deep down he was a loving and caring guy who really cared for Anna despite what she had done to his family.
I also liked Anna Graves. I really felt sorry for her, everyone in her town turned against her and were quick to judge at what she did. I personally think no one knows what you are capable of doing until you are in that situation. All the secrets about her family, I would of had a mental break down if I found out my family was not what I thought of growing up. Overall I think she was a great person, an amazing mother and also a strong woman who did not give up a fight to find out the truth and clear her name.
No Turning Back is the second book I have read by Tracy Buchanan. I thought this book is amazing, I can honestly say it is one of my favourite books that I have read. I think Tracy Buchanan is now one of my favourite authors. I will be definitly be reading her other books, I cannot wait to read them all.
I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy reading this genre or even readers that have not read a thriller/mystery type of story before and want to read something different. My very first mystery book I have ever read is My Sister’s Secret, which was written by Tracy and i have been hooked ever since.
