The Next Girl is about a woman named Deborah Jenkins who worked late one night, after she finished work, she never made it home. She disappeared with no trace of where or who has taken her.

I read this a few weeks ago. To be honest I struggled to finished the book and struggled to write the review. I did not want to be too harsh on my opinion about it.

Synopsis

She thought he’d come to save her. She was wrong.

Deborah Jenkins pulls her coat around her as she sets out on her short walk home in the pouring rain. But she never makes it home that night. And she is never seen again …

Four years later, an abandoned baby girl is found wrapped in dirty rags on a doorstep. An anonymous phone call urges the police to run a DNA test on the baby. But nobody is prepared for the results.

The newborn belongs to Deborah. She’s still alive.

Review

The Next Girl story is pretty good but the way it was written was not so great. I thought if it was written differently, I would have enjoyed it a lot more than I did. I struggled to finish the book. It is a small book but it took me nearly a week to finish it.

I definitely did not expected the person who was behind Deborah’s disappearance but I was not shocked at all, my reaction was “oh him”. I thought that person would have been more close to the family. It was just someone that I would not of thought of at all, which made me feel a little disappointed.

There was two Detectives who happened to have a cold. I have had cold before, so I know how it effects people. I did not need to know the full graphic details of the nose blowing and throat mucus.

I really disliked Luke! I could not imagine what he was going through, I know it would be heart breaking when your wife disappears and having to be strong and look after there kids without her. Oh my gosh! I got so frustrated with Luke’s constant sobbing. While reading the book it was mentioned multiple times that he was brave and strong. I thought the opposite.

Conclusion

Overall the story was okay, I wish it was written differently. It is definitely not the worst book in the world. The Next Girl is not something I would personally recommend to a friend or family. People who like this genre might like it or might not.

I think I might give Carla Kovach another try and read another book she has written hopefully soon.
